General Indications
Crochet Separately
Crochet the body, head, and legs as separate parts. After completing the last round, secure the final stitch and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. This tail will be used to attach the parts together.
Crochet Together
While crocheting the main body parts, some stitches will be worked into the back loop only. Leave paper clips in the front loops or use a stitch marker. These front loops will be used to attach the parts together or crochet other parts on.
How to Crochet Using Front Loops
1. Insert your crochet hook into the front loop indicated and make a slip stitch.
2. Make your first stitch in the pattern in the same loop.
3. If the front loops form a round, crochet in each loop clockwise until you reach the loop you started with.
4. Otherwise, crochet clockwise until you reach the last loop, then turn the work around and crochet on the other side of the loops

Crochet in continuous spiral rounds using pink yarn.
Locate the marker for the tail that you left when crocheting the body. Begin your first round there. Continue crocheting around in the other front loops that you’ve left until you reach the last one. Start the second round on top of the first single crochet of round 1.

Arms x2
Crochet in continuous spiral rounds using pink yarn.
- For the right arm, position the body so that the belly is facing you.
- For the left arm, position the body so that you are facing the back of it.
Then start the first round in the front loop where you’ve left a stitch marker.

- Round 1: Sc 8. [8 sts]
- R2: (Inc, sc 3)* 2. [10 sts]
- R3: Sc 10. [10 sts]
- R4: Sc 5, inc, sc 4. [11 sts]

- R8: Sc 3, inc, sc 3, dec, sc 4. [13 sts]
- R9: Sc 2, (dec, sc)* 3, dec. [9 sts]
- R10: Dec 3. [3 sts]
Horns x2
Crochet in continuous spiral rounds using green yarn.
To begin the horns, position the head so that the right side of it is in front of you. Locate the 3 front loops that are exposed on each side of the head. Start each horn in the middle front loop.

- Round 1: Sc 6. [6 sts]
- R2: Sc 4, inc 2. [8 sts]
- R3: Sc 8. [8 sts]
- R4: Sc 6, inc, sc. [9 sts]
- R5: Sc 9. [9 sts]
- R6: SC 9. [9 sts]
- R7: (Dec, sc)* 2. [4 sts + 3 spare]
Wings x 2
Identify the two columns of 6 front loops each that you’ve reserved in the middle of the dragon’s back.
- Start the left wing in the top left front loop and crochet towards the tail.
- Begin the right wing in the bottom right front loop and crochet towards the neck.

Once you’ve crocheted in the 6 loops, turn the dragon around and crochet in the same front loops again.
- Round 1: (Inc, sc 4, inc)* 2. [16 sts]
- R2: (Inc, sc 6, inc)* 2. [20 sts]
- R3:
- for left wing: Inc, sc 18, inc. [22 sts]
- for right wing: Sc 9, inc 2, sc 9. [22 sts]
- R4 – R5: Sc 22. [22 sts]
- R6:
- first half: Hdc, dc inc, hdc, sl st (leave a paper clip), chain 3, tr, dtr, tr, chain 2, sl st (leave a paper clip), chain 1, hdc, dc inc, (hdc, sl st),
- second half: Chain 1, hdc, dc inc, hdc, sl st (leave a paper clip), chain 3, tr, dtr, tr, chain 2, sl st (leave a paper clip), chain 1, hdc, dc inc, (hdc, sl st).
After finishing the final round, leave a long tail. Align the paper clips on both sides of the wing, then securely stitch them together using the tail.

Leaves x8
Before diving into the leaf crochet, ensure you’ve completed all the preceding parts.
IMPORTANT: Use a regular decrease method for the leaves. Here’s how: Insert the hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull through, then insert the hook into the second stitch, yarn over and pull through, and finally, pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
Using green yarn, crochet in rows.

Identify all sets of 4 front loops that remain. You’ll find 3 sets on each side of the body, with 1 set on each side of the body incorporating stitches from the tail, and 2 sets on the head, serving as placeholders for the ears. Insert your crochet hook into either the first or last front loop of each set.
- Row 1: Sc 4. [4 sts]
- R2 – R3: Sc 4. [4 sts]
- R4: Dec 2. [2 sts]
- R5: Dec. [1 st]
- R6: Sl st. [1 st]

Tip of the Tail
Crochet in rows using green yarn.
In the final row, you’ll come across the sequence of stitches in brackets – (dc, trc, chain 1, sl st into trc, dc), which means that you should crochet them all together in one stitch.
Where to start
Position the dragon sideways and pinch the last row of the tail together so that it forms two rows of stitches. Row 1:
- First single crochet: Begin with a slip stitch and the first single crochet in the rightmost stitch.
- Second single crochet: Locate the middle stitches of both rows you’ve formed. Make a single crochet using front loops of both middle stitches.
- Third single crochet: Crochet the third single crochet in the leftmost stitch.

- Row 1: Sl st, sc 3. [3 sts] – as in description above.
- R2: Inc 3. [6 sts]
- R3: inc, sc 4, inc. [8 sts]
- R4: sc 3, inc, sc 4. [9 sts]
- R5: sc (marker), sc 8, chain 4. [13 sts]
- R6: Skip 1 chain, sl stitch, skip 2 chains, dc, hdc, sl st, chain 1, hdc, chain 1, (dc, trc, chain 1, sl st into trc, dc), hdc, chain 1, sl st, chain 1, hdc, chain 1, dc, chain 1, slip stitch into the dc, chain 1, sl stitch into row 5 where you’ve left the marker.

Finishing Touches
Attach the Head to the Body
Here’s how to attach the parts together:
- Locate the Front Loops: Begin by identifying the front loops positioned at the base of the head. These loops will serve as the connection point between the head and body, ensuring a even attachment.
- Count the front Loops: you should have 26 of them. It is the same amount as the stitches in the last round of the body.
- Identify the Starting Point: Locate the stitch marker placed in round 14 of the head. This marker indicates where the first stitch will be made.
- Make the first stitch: Thread the tail from the body through a tapestry needle. Thread it through the front loop with a stitch marker in the head.
- Alternate Stitching: Continue threading the tail, alternating between the stitches in the last round of the body and the loops with paper clips in the head. This alternating pattern ensures uniformity and stability in the attachment.

Dragon Fruit Seeds
To create the distinctive spots on the dragon’s belly, grab some black yarn and a tapestry needle. Playfully stitch random dashes and dots across the belly, mimicking the appearance of dragon fruit seeds.
Embrace the spontaneity and enjoy the process of adding this unique touch to your creation.

Decoration

For a polished finish, consider enhancing the definition of the belly by outlining it with white yarn. Stitch all around the belly to create subtle borders, adding an extra layer of detail to your dragon fruit dragon.
